Museum of Fine Arts Boston

Founded in 1870, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts is one of the largest art museums in the world, consisting of nearly 450,000 pieces of art. Over one million people visit the museum every year. Collections include Egyptian artifacts, French impressionist, post-impressionist, 18th and 19th century American art, a large collection of Chinese art, the largest collection of Japanese art outside of Japan, and a Japanese Garden. Guests can also shop at one of three gift shops and dine at one of four restaurants.



Saturday through Tuesday 10:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
Wednesday through Friday 10:00 a.m. to 9:45 p.m.


Adults: $22; Seniors (65+), Students (18+): $20
Children (6 and under): Free; Youths (7-17): $10
Free on Weekends, after 3:00 p.m. and school holidays

Visitors can choose between four restaurants at the museum, including Bravo, New American Café, Taste and The Garden Cafeteria.


What are the best exhibits for young children?

MFA Children’s Guides are available at the ticket counter. Three animated characters guide children on a kid-friendly tour of the museum in seven different languages.

Which days are the least crowded?

School Group tours are typically scheduled for weekday mornings. Visitors are encouraged to visit on weekday afternoons to avoid crowds.
