Embrace Craft Beer Culture at Boston's Best Breweries & Beer Gardens
Craft beers have skyrocketed to popularity with one craze after another at cities all over the U.S. But many argue that it all started right here in Boston in 1985, when Jim Koch opened Samuel Adams Brewery and begin producing his now-famous lager. Sam Adams brewery is still around - and it's been joined by countless other craft breweries pumping out immaculate brews. From lagers and pale ales to stouts and the hearty IPA, Boston is truly a beer drinker's paradise. Check out some of Boston's best breweries and beer gardens where you can sample the city's finest libations.
Trillium Brewing Company: Famous IPAs in Fort Point
Tucked onto Congress Street just a short walk from our hotel, this bar offers cans, bottles, and growlers to go. The larger taproom is in Canton (about 15 miles southwest of the city), but this little bar is a great place to snag the brewery's coveted double IPAs. Trillium has been a leader of the New England IPA movement, and you'll also find excellent pale ales, sour ales, wild ales, wild saisons, stouts, and experimental brews. Keep an eye out for Trillium beers to pop up at seasonal beer gardens across the city. (0.4 miles from our hotel)
Harpoon Brewery, Beer Hall & Keg Yard: Craft Beer Before It Was Cool
Head to the Seaport District to find this vivacious hangout. Harpoon was making great beer long before any kind of craft beer movement - for 30 years, in fact. Drinkers congregate in the seasonal outdoor Keg Gard to eat giant pretzels and sip the luscious IPAs, stouts, and Hefeweizens. Its location down by the water makes the brewery a popular stop in the summertime. You'll also find $5 brewery tours plus special concerts and events throughout the year. (1.2 miles from our hotel)
Cambridge Brewing Co: Belgian-Style Beer at Boston's Oldest Brewpub
Enjoy classic English ales, ambers, and porters at this inviting brewpub, which pioneered the concept in 1989. Located just across the Charles River, it offers ten different beers on tap - traditional brews as well as experimental concoctions like corn lagers and sake-beer mutants. Sit inside or outside and sample from the respectable menu of pub grub: pizzas, burgers, nachos, and fish ‘n chips. The brewery is famous for its Belgian-style beers and for using only water, malt, hops, and yeast in their house beers. (2.4 miles from our hotel)
Lamplighter Brewing Co: Chilled-Out Oasis for New England IPAs
One of the newer breweries riding the New England IPA trend, this beautiful, laid-back brewery is a great place to relax with friends. Situated by Kendall Square in Cambridge, the taprooms beers are creating a buzz among local connoisseurs. Try the Rabbit Rabbit, Birds of a Feather, or Werewolves of Cambridge to get clued in on the trend. Chill over a flight inside or on the patio. Lamplighter often features pop-up food vendors or free bar snacks, along with evening music and trivia games. (2.7 miles from our hotel)
Aeronaut Brewing Company: Inventive Brews & Sunday Picnics
Located just outside of Union Square in Somerville, this cavernous taproom and brewery has quickly risen among the ranks of Boston's best craft breweries. Drinkers will find fun, innovative brews made with flavors like carrot, pineapple, coconut, ginger, and sumac.
