Serious runners and professional athletes from around the world arrive this month to compete in the heralded Boston Marathon. One of the six World Marathon Majors - and the oldest annual marathon in existence - this 26.2-mile race is an inspiring testament to strength, grace, and perseverance. The Boston Marathon always takes place on Patriot's Day, which falls on Monday, April 18 this year. Runners must qualify to compete in the race, which is one of the pinnacle events for marathon races. Over 30,000 athletes will race the course, and over half a million spectators will cheer them on from the sidelines. It's impossible not to get swept away in the excitement when you're visiting the city during the Boston Marathon.
