What made you decide to host your wedding celebration at the InterContinental Boston?

We were looking for venues in and around Boston. We've always loved the InterContinental but it wasn't on our radar until we met with our wedding planner. We thought it was out of our price range, but once we met with the Catering Sales Manger she really helped us to see that we could get everything we were looking for and stay within budget. The team at the InterContinental was unbelievably friendly and accommodating, they treated us like we were their only bride and groom. They were 100% on their game and know what they're doing! We never once worried about the wedding events because we knew we were in good hands with them.

What would your advice be for any future brides, currently searching for their dream wedding venue?

Of course you want to love the venue, but you should also love the wedding staff at the venue because they're the ones who are going to be taking care of you along the way. It's important to find a team who is there to support you and your ideas and also help with suggestions.

How did you make your wedding reception uniquely "you"?

We tried to keep the night moving by going right into serving the food and speeches so we could get right into the fun dancing. We also gave our guests a lounge area to hang out and take a break between songs if they needed it.

What wedding vision were you trying to achieve? Where did you look to help create this vision? (i.e. magazines? Specific Websites? Pinterest?)

We were looking for something that classy and elegant but not too fancy. We looked at Pinterest and worked with a wedding planner.

Is there anything you would have wished you would have known going into the planning?

Not really, we had received a lot of advice from friends and family.

What parts of the wedding were you glad you had Kristen for?

EVERYTHING. She was a lifesaver. We got engaged in April and booked our wedding for October, so it was a short timeframe. Kristyn was so helpful in every aspect of our wedding, she helped us find the venue (after we had searched for many on our own without luck), pick a color scheme, choose invites, find an amazing band and so so much more! It was so great having her there the day of the wedding too, I remember there was an issue with one of the tables and I never had to worry about it, she took care of it right away and made everything seem so seamless.

Why did you decide to host your ceremony at the hotel?

We were looking at a wedding of about 300 people so we needed a place that could hold that amount for the ceremony and reception. It was also nice because we had a lot of out of town guests, so they could be in one place with the ceremony, reception and lodging and not have to worry about driving/shuttling from place to place.

What was your favorite part of your special day?

It's hard to pick one favorite part of our special day, but one that sticks out the most is having some quick alone time after the ceremony, where it was just us, taking in everything that just happened. The venue set aside a room with a special table with an outside window view, they ushered us to this room after we walked down the aisle. They brought in plates of all the appetizers that were being served during cocktail hour. My husband and I got to talk and have that special moment before joining and greeting all of our 280+ guests.

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

We went to Sydney Australia for a week and then Bora Bora for another week.

What made you decide to host your wedding celebration at the InterContinental Boston?

Picking the Intercontinental was easy. The hotel itself is grand, it's clean, the staff is professional and welcoming, and it makes you feel good just to be there. Once we saw the ballroom- we just knew. The high ceilings, the floor to ceiling city view- It couldn't have been more perfect. The staff that helped us with our planning- primarily Nicolette and Chanel- made sure we could make it work within our budget, and stuck to it. From the day that I walked in I knew it would be amazing to host our wedding there, and it definitely did not disappoint!

What would your advice be for any future brides, currently searching for their dream wedding venue?

Don't settle. If your dream venue is out of reach financially- then think about what it is you love about the venue and look for those elements in other places. I personally also love a one-stop-shop. Having a venue that has almost everything you could want and need available makes things VERY easy!

How did you make your wedding reception uniquely "you"?

We chose a New Year's Eve wedding because we wanted it to be more of a fun atmosphere- what could be better than ringing in the New Year with the love of your life AND everyone else that is important in your world, all together!? It was so fun, it was glamourous and it was timeless. It was perfect!

What wedding vision were you trying to achieve? Where did you look to help create this vision? (i.e. magazines? Specific Websites? Pinterest?)

Pinterest was a great tool. I also scrolled through weddings on Style Me Pretty and Martha Stewart Weddings for ideas. I wanted my wedding to be glamourous and timeless- all of those websites helped me to find ideas and elements I could incorporate into my day.

Is there anything you would have wished you would have known going into the planning?

Everyone will give you advice on what is important and what is not… but you have to figure it out on your own. Just don't get too hung up on anything, it's not worth it.

What parts of the Wedding did you wish / have outside assistance with?

I didn't really need any additional help- my coordinators at the hotel (Nicolette and Chanel) handled everything and more! I absolutely wouldn't have been able to pull it off without everything they did.

Why did you decide to host your wedding at the church?

I'm not super religious, but both my husband and I are catholic. I have always pictured getting married in a church, and I know it was pretty important to both our parents as well. During planning, it wasn't a deal breaker either way, but I am very happy with the way it turned out at the church.

What was your favorite part of your special day?

The whole day was magical, to be honest. That sounds so cliché, but it was. At one point while my husband and I were dancing, we were encircled by all of our guests. Everyone that was important to us was standing around us, supporting us. It was such an incredible feeling that I will never forget.

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

Aruba! We love it there and didn't have a huge budget to go somewhere more exotic… so that was another easy decision.

What made you decide to host your wedding celebration at the InterContinental Boston?

With me living in Philadelphia, my mother did a lot of venue research for me. I knew i wanted the seaport as a location and wanted to be as close to the water as possible so when my mom told me how much she loved the staff and location of InterContinental (and that it was within our budget!) i knew it was a no brainer! My husband and I flew home to Boston the following weekend to see the space for ourselves and it could not have been more perfect. The backdrop of the harbor for our wedding was brilliant and the fact we were able to have cocktail hour outside made the day really special.

What would your advice be for any future brides, currently searching for their dream wedding venue?

Try to stay calm, everything works out in the end!! Once you pick the venue everything else falls into place

How did you make your wedding reception uniquely "you"?

The staff at the InterContinental was amazing I cannot say enough good things about Nicolette and Chanel who were there for me throughout the entire process. My husband and I met in college at Clemson University and we knew we wanted to incorporate Clemson somehow. The bakery that did our cake did an AMAZING job and made our cake a "clemson cake" with our orange and purple colors, paw prints and the south carolina palmetto tree. It was so special. Also i am obsessed with Disney my mom gave me a mickey mouse bracelet to wear on the big day and I used cinderallas carriage as our card holder.

What wedding vision were you trying to achieve? Where did you look to help create this vision? (i.e. magazines? Specific Websites? Pinterest?)

My florist (who was recommended by Nicolette) Jimmy actually made me get Pinterest to find ideas for the look i was going for so that really helped! I knew I wanted elegant but relaxed as well. I wanted my wedding to be beautiful but not feel "stuffy" and it honestly could not have turned out more perfect.

Is there anything you would have wished you would have known going into the planning?

That even though all the tiny little details are important to you, try not to stress because at the end of the day you new going to be happy no matter what!

What parts of the Wedding did you wish / have outside assistance with?

I originally thought we would have to hire an outside wedding planner because I was based in Philly and did not want to put all the responsibility on my mom but the hotel and Nicolette helped us with everything and even recommended an amazing florist. We definitely could not have made the day possible without her help!

Why did you decide to host your wedding at the church?

We decided to actually host our wedding ceremony at the hotel so that everything was all in the same venue (ceremony, cocktail hour, reception). A lot of my guests commented on how happy they were everything was in the same area and that they felt they could enjoy themselves more. The backdrop for the ceremony was beautiful floor to ceiling views of the harbor cocktail hour was right outside on the green and reception was in the larger ballroom with the same floor to ceiling windows and amazing views

What was your favorite part of your special day?

I think my favorite part of the day was the first look, i felt like a princess and was so happy I just wanted to see my husband and the look on his face when he saw me for the first time is something I will always remember. Also having basically everyone i love and care about in one place celebrating us was very special. My favorite part of the planning process was definitely the tasting it was such a fun day!!

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

We went on a quick mini-moon to Mexico right after the wedding for 5 days then took our real honeymoon in Thailand in the winter!

What made you decide to host your wedding celebration at the InterContinental Boston?

We decided to host our wedding celebration at the InterContinental Boston because we knew we wanted a big city wedding, but more than anything, we felt comfortable with the InterContinental team and were confident that they would be the right fit for us. Wedding planning is no easy feat - it can be stressful and overwhelming - and I can't imagine not being on the same page as my coordinators or settling for a venue that wasn't the perfect fit. In every way possible, the InterContinental Boston was perfect for us.

What would your advice be for any future brides, currently searching for their dream wedding venue?

My advice for brides currently searching for their dream venue is to do your homework and follow your intuition. If you get a funny vibe from a location or a team, don't be afraid to keep looking!! Stay true to what you want for your big day, but also remember that wedding planning is a marathon, not a sprint. You should never be forced into a vision or an aesthetic that isn't what you want - it's your big day, you're allowed to be a little selfish!

How did you make your wedding reception uniquely "you"?

We made our wedding uniquely "us" by bringing our style into the venue. The Rose Kennedy Ballroom at the IC Boston was the perfect canvas for us - gorgeous floor to ceiling windows overlooking the Fort Point Channel with stunning views of our old neighborhood, Boston's Seaport. But more than anything, what brought everything together was our guests! Our family and friends helped us set the tone for the entire night - and no amount of decor could have ever replaced that!

What wedding vision were you trying to achieve? Where did you look to help create this vision?

The vision for our wedding was classic and timeless, but FUN as hell (not sure if I'm allowed to swear lol). We got married on New Year's Eve and made it clear that we were there to celebrate! With a live band and a confetti cannon at midnight, we kept the champagne flowing to ring in the New Year the best way we knew how, as husband and wife. I definitely looked at Pinterest and a couple other wedding sites, but I didn't want our wedding to be too "themey" or too trendy, which is why I incorporated some NYE elements in the Photo Booth and color scheme, but tried to keep things classic too!

What was your favorite part of your special day?

It is so hard to pick a favorite part of our big day, but I think my overall favorite had to be midnight. We were surrounded by our closest family and friends, the band was playing, gold confetti was flying through the air, and somehow it still felt like Dan and I were in our own little world. It was absolutely perfect.

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

We went to the Maldives for our honeymoon and it was the best! With a layover in Dubai, we decided to stay for a couple days on our way to the Maldives, and it was breathtaking to see the city and the architecture. But ultimately, the Maldives was our dream destination - pure beauty and relaxation!

What made you decide to host your wedding celebration at the InterContinental Boston?

There were many things that made us choose the InterContinental Boston for our wedding. We thought the space itself was beautiful and loved the views of the water in Boston and the ability to take photos outside. We also appreciated that the location enabled our guests to easily explore other parts of Boston.
In terms of the actual venue itself, it could accommodate our numbers. We really liked that there was a separate space where we could do the ceremony and then have the reception in another room so that we didn't need to flip the space.
We also loved all of the staff, particularly Nicolette and Chanel, and felt like we could work well with everyone that we met while on our tours.
*My husband also really liked the smell in the lobby when we visited.

What would your advice be for any future brides, currently searching for their dream wedding venue?

From a practical standpoint, I think that it is really important to have a good sense of what you want before you go looking (things like the number of guests you plan to invite, whether you want a particular view, time of day, season, etc). This means knowing what pricing works for you as well as what features and type of experience you want for your wedding and your guests. If you have anything that is a non-negotiable, don't bother looking at venues that do not meet your criterion - no sense in falling in love with some place that can't work for you. I also would recommend that future couples keep in mind that while the venue makes a big difference in how the day looks and in the flow of the day, what ultimately matters is this huge step you are taking to celebrate your love, and that could happen anywhere.

How did you make your wedding reception uniquely "you"?

We did a lot of things to make the whole day very "us" - we were committed to our wedding having the feel of our life together as a couple. We don't take ourselves too seriously and love to laugh and party, so we wanted that to be reflected in our wedding. It was most important to us to have a really fun event where our guests had a great time.
We started some of our wedding festivities the night before the actual wedding with a hosted welcome event for all of our out of town guests in one of the InterContinental ballrooms. We decided to have that welcome be a tour of our lives, so we had stations of snacks and drinks that corresponded to different parts of our life (e.g. the type of food from our first date, from our first vacation, from cities we have lived in, etc.). The chef worked with us really closely to create a fun menu of snacks and desserts that fit our theme and did an awesome job of setting it up according to our vision.
On the actual day, we started by having a friend officiate our ceremony and curated the ceremony towards showing people us as a couple. We wrote our own vows and picked music that was meaningful to us. When it came to the reception, we had a specific vision that we wanted our wedding to be the most fun night ever. For us, that meant making sure that our guests were having a great time and dancing all night. We chose to get a bigger dance floor and used a company that specialized in light-up dance floors to help set the mood for our event. We also worked with Nicolette and Chanel to create a flow and order for the evening that matched our interests and prioritized getting people up and dancing. We also had a great DJ who we really trusted to work with our likes/dislikes in music in order to have the atmosphere that we wanted. From a physical perspective, we had great flowers and uplighting to make the space fit with our aesthetic vision. We are foodies, so having delicious food was also important to us and to making our event what we hoped it would be. All the food was fantastic during our tasting, so we knew we would be in good hands, but we also chose to work with the chef to make some changes/additions/substitutions to keep the feel exactly what we wanted and most like eating. We also opted to go for the dessert buffet later in the night and to have late night snacks for our after party (which we hosted in the ballroom after the official end of the wedding).

What wedding vision were you trying to achieve? Where did you look to help create this vision? (i.e. magazines? Specific Websites? Pinterest?)

I mostly used Pinterest to help me identify my likes/dislikes in terms of flours, bridesmaids dresses, cake design, and general vision. I knew in my head what I liked, but Pinterest allowed me to share that with others on my team to help them get on the same page.
My husband was the one who suggest the light up dance floor. It was the only thing he really cared about, and it made a huge difference in the feel of the room.

What parts of the Wedding did you wish / have outside assistance with?

My mom is very adept with event planning and lives in the Boston area, so I was fortunate to have her as our wedding planner. She did a lot of the leg work in terms of organization and outreach to various vendors for us. We were also really impressed with Nicolette and Chanel's ability to help get us in touch with all of the outside services that we wanted. They were particularly great with connecting us with a florist who we absolutely loved (JNG Event Consulting)!

What was your favorite part of your special day?

It is impossible to say what our favorite part of the day was because we loved everything so much. We've been married over 6 months now, and we still regularly talk about how our wedding was the most fun day ever. If I had to narrow it down to one experience (other than getting to marry the man I love), it would be the feeling of having a room full of people who love us and support us and were there to celebrate this exciting time in our lives. It was really awe inspiring to look around the room and know that it was almost everyone in the world that matter to us in one place.

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

We haven't gone on a honeymoon yet. We couldn't take the time off right around our wedding because of our school/work schedules, so plan to do that sometime down the road. Our dream is to travel in Italy and Greece though, so that will happen one day.

Bonus thoughts:

We loved the staff at the InterContinental! Particularly the folks in Catering Sales completely got our family and our needs and were so much fun to work with. They were willing to tackle any request, give their opinions and feedback when appropriate and needed, and help steer us in the right direction. They also helped us to feel like friends - I never felt like I was getting a sales pitch. We truly enjoyed spending time with them, and miss staying in touch as regularly now that the wedding is over. On the whole, all of the staff were kind and thoughtful, and made us feel special and taken care of throughout the whole process.
